With every new school year comes a new set of challenges, and for the Robotics Design Team, it’s preparing for the 2017 Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition, or IGVC for short. The competition takes place At Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan on June 2 – June 5, 2017. The contestants must design an outdoor terrain vehicle of at least 3 feet long, and navigate though an obstacle course, 100% autonomously. This means no member of our team can touch or control our robot. This competition will challenge all aspects of design on our team.
Our Mechanical Division will build a rugged chassis and manage a multitude of systems from hydraulics to weather proofing. The Electrical Division is responsible for all sensors and power requirements, while the Computing Division will do work with multiple system interfaces and intelligent control. The technologies involved with IGVC have many applications in emerging industries such as military mobility, intelligent transportation systems, adaptive cruise control, mobile robotics, and surveillance systems. The team is excited to bring these skills to it’s new members.
